Czech it Out – My Life is a Whirlwind of Stupid

I thought I would take a break from NaNoing to give you all an update on my life here in Czech. Drama has been plentiful, so there is certainly a lot to brief on…

First of all, let’s start with the roommate situation. My former roommate and teacher decided to quit (This is what I was alluding to but never quite mentioned in the last post). He did so in a proper manner (sort of, I mean, if you count Facebook messaging your director about an “exit strategy” proper), giving them enough time to find a replacement before he left town. That was decent, as I know he was very unhappy and wanted to leave as soon as possible. It took about a month for the new person to arrive, and he didn’t waste any time – he left about an hour before she arrived, not saying goodbye to anyone or even paying off the various debts he had accrued during his stay here.
I may touch on this more at some point after the dust has settled, because I really do have a lot more to say on the matter.
But enough of that. My new roommate is pretty cool. She is a girl from Boston, and very easy going. I think we will get along great. And she seems to be a good teacher so far, which at least is good for the company!
So you may be thinking to yourself, ah, things sound like they are finally going well for you, huh? Heh. Things were going well for about two days. I even had a little hope – I thought I could see myself going about in this manner, happily, until June. Then, on Sunday night, I found out one of the other teachers is quitting, and I will have to take all of his classes. This means my entire schedule is going to undergo an upheaval. Many of my classes will be cancelled or given to other teachers just so I can cover these classes at the state school. It’s ridiculous. There is absolutely no stability here. And my absolutely awesome schedule of having mornings off – completely ruined. I will now probably have classes every morning, which is totally great. Just lovely.
I understand it’s not my directors’ fault that this has happened. But it is their fault that they don’t want to hire someone new to cover his classes. It’s a bit ridiculous, actually. Just because I have a few extra hours left in the week does not mean you can just give me all of someone’s classes. Granted, these are classes at the state school (not the puny, afterschool/extracurricular classes I teach), and they count as a student’s grade, so they need to be covered. What will happen to all of my classes?!
I think they are going to max all the remaining three of us out to our 25 hour limit, and then try and get someone part time to cover the rest of the remaining classes. Which is ridiculous. Just hire another teacher! You had four before, it’s not like money is an issue or something. Why does my schedule have to keep changing? All I’m saying is, they better watch it, or they may have more teachers quitting on them.
I guess I just have to wait and see. They have two weeks to sort all of this out, as the teacher is leaving at the end of November. I really just wish things could stay the same. I’m flexible, but really, I didn’t join a circus.
Ugh, rant over. I hope. I may spontaneously burst into rant again. In other news, today I went to a presentation at the university about Hungary. It was put on by a group of international students here on Erasmus – if you don’t know about that, go look it up. It’s basically study abroad for EU kids. They’re a nice bunch. I met some of them a while back at a meetup for a website aptly named Foreigners.cz, so maybe now I can keep in touch with them.
Other than that… life persists. I realize I have yet to update this blog with any real pertinent details about anything. It’s just more of a rant-space. I’m sorry you have to deal with that, e-World. But isn’t that why you exist?
